It's been busy around the Artists Within headquarters

We've been on TV, we've been winning makeup competitions (!), we've been on set, and we've walked the runway ; needless to say we've been getting around!

A few weeks ago we told you about Artists Within Alumni Helen Kwan. She competed in the ABA makeup competition and the last time we reported we were still awaiting the results...

Well,

HELEN WON!!!!! YAY!!

Artists Within was part of a 'first' at this year's Lilac Festival. 

The Lilac Festival has been around for 23 years and have never had a fashion show! 

Artists Within and AW Models Int'l changed that this year with the help of SHE Apparel, ChiChi Couture, Passioné and AW's very own model and independent designer Ashley Quan with her line Apiana Que

Want to get involved with everything cool that we do??

Here are a few ways to do so...

1. Attend our Academy

We offer diploma programs in makeup, session hair styling, wardrobe styling and advanced makeup.

We offer certified programs in airbrushing and eyelash extensions

2. Become a model 

Send some shots (minimal makeup please- 1 head shot, 1 full body wearing jeans, tank top, heels)

3. Attend our Teen Fashion Camp

Pretty.Stylish. Fashion Camp 2012

For the junior fashionista (12-17 yrs), fashion camp is a great introduction to everything fashion!

Teach Me Tuesday-Sounds of the Runway

Music creates mood,  rhythm,  ambiance and emotion.

Music influences trends in fashion and in turn music is influenced by fashion trends

Imagine a runway show with no music, no sounds but that of the heels clicking down the runway, the rythmic breathing and gasps of the audience as the next model appears... 

OK

Now imagine a runway show with  heavy bass pulsing through your body, drums beating in unison with your heart and the models movements uniform with the surrounding sounds...

Both shows would evoke a certain emotion, a mood, a feeling. That's the power of sound!

So, who picks the sounds of the runway...?

A man by the name of Frederic Sanchez is responsible for a lot of it. He has been dubbed a "legendary sound stylist". Working with labels such as Prada, Marc Jacobs, and Jean Paul Gaultier to name a few.

The music must have a certain relevance to the collection being presented.

Fashion Friday-Lakme Fashion Week

Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the commercial and entertainment capital of India.

Rich with culture & entertainment, a thriving economy and a population of over 20 million people, it's no wonder Mumbai houses India's Fashion Week.

Designer Abhishek Dutta mixed color and texture for this wearable look!

The hair seen on Anita Dongre's runway models felt a little rock-a-billy...and we LOVED it!

Khushali Kumar's hair styles had a Grecian influence to go with her collection

Bold colors and patterns were paired with electric blue, dramatic shadow for Masaba Gupta's show

India's high fashion hipsters will be imitating the looks seen on Sabyasachi Mukherjee's models. The neon lip has been seen worldwide and we're still loving it!

Now, we know this is all about Lakme Fashion week but we can't help but showcase Chanel's Bollywood Couture 2012 collection...

And the RUNWAY!

Paris Fashion Week-For the Love of Fashion

Pour l'amour de mode

 Since Charles Frederick Worth, started his "mason de couture" or "House Of Worth" in the 1800's, Paris has been a leader in fashion trends.

Fast forward to 2012-Paris is still recognized as a fashion capital. 

Ordinary folks are littered in high fashion frocks... 

Individual style appears so effortless, but is *bang on* everytime!

Exhibit A: Impeccable style

With Paris Fashion Week wrapped up, we thought it only appropriate to showcase some of the hottest fashion forward trends that were seen on the runways of this Fashion Capital!

These TopShop models show us that bedhead is ok to rock if you have great clothing on!
Achieve this look by spraying a little Kevin Murphy-TextureTexture.Master onto dry hair. Scrunch and go!

Burberry models stole our hearts with their bold brows, soft smokey eyes, natural pink pout and soft contoured cheeks.
Magnifique!

Phillip Lim gave us a *POP* of color with this "great for any occasion outfit"!

We foresee fashionista's worldwide, including ourselves, drooling over this little leather dress by ADAM.

Ann Demeulemeester has a place in our hearts with this perfect mix of pattern, chiffon and leather. A design that is right on trend!


Paris fashion week has come to a close-Next up is Mumbai, India. 
Rich with culture that has a profound impact worldwide, the designs at  Lakme Fashion Week will be sure to be beautiful, unique and representative of the "oldest living civilization on Earth!"

 New York Fashion Week has arrived!

We've showcased some of our fave looks; one's that we can't wait to see more of this Spring!

Hair, Makeup and Garb, get ready!

MAKEUP

The Row's runway makeup demonstrated that less is more with this illuminated base, contoured cheeks and natural lip. *Hearts a Flutter*

Erin Fetherston took us back in time with this 60's, MOD inspired look.

HAIR

Wes Gordon made the traditional pony tail a little more pretty with soft waves. 

L.A.M.B  exaggerated the conventional bun atop her model's heads to go with her rocker chic collection.

DERNIER CRI

Calvin Klein's collection oozed with femininity. Nude "color-blocking" leaves room to play up your makeup and accessories with bright, bold colors!

Loving the patterns this season, Proenza Schouler made a stunning outfit that any fashionista would drool over!
