Teach Me Tuesday: Fashion Friday how-to's

| Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Friday is translating into Tuesday
You know, minus the pleasant prospect of Saturday.
Today, we're dissecting the looks from Friday's
post and showing you how the
pro's do it

Starting with Moschino's look
Electric eyeliner made its presence known on
the bottom lash line...

A fresh base with subtle warm contour, natural
groomed brows, and a pristine pout
allowing the eyes to steal the runway.
As seen on Moschino models.

How to:
Apply foundation only where needed to ensure your natural glow isn't masked.
Add an understated illuminator to your foundation for a little sparkle

Groom brows with a disposable, clean, mascara wand to achieve the natural shape.
Keep 'em in place with a little brow gel/wax or a light hold hairspray

Slap on your fave lip balm to add some moisture

Line the bottom lash line and water line with
an electric blue, volatile violet or intense tangerine
Remember to set your liner with a matching eyeshadow color
or a translucent powder
to ensure in-to-the-night wear

Missoni's runway look had the gab doing all the talking!
A juicy punch of color makes us think of
tropical flavored candies and rainbows!

A heavily highlighted, dewy, base,
exaggerated brows, no-shadow lid and
a light coat of mascara
lets the mouth do all the talking for this
look seen on Missoni's SS2013 runway

How to:
For heavy highlight, use a liberal amount of liquid or cream highlighter, apply
to all areas you want to accentuate
ie: Cheek bones, above brows, chin, jaw line.
For a more faint highlight, mix it in with your foundation only
Add a pale pink contour to emphasize the cheek bones even further

Groom brows, making sure to exaggerate the shape with your pencil and powder to maintain the look

Offer restraint when apply mascara. The look calls for natural lashes (try brown to keep it  über organic looking)

Line your lips to avoid any bleeding of lip color. For longer wear, color them in using the lip pencil. Put your desired lip color on top.
The face chart above shows that the artist, Lucia Pieroni, uses a highlight
around the mouth for an instant pout plumper, sans needles

Finding face charts for Peter Som's runway makeup was
damn impossible!
We'll have to settle on a backstage shot...

Artist, Tom Pecheux, makes sure to keep the
focal point on the baby blues by muting
the rest of the look.
With next-to-no-makeup visible, all
eyes are on, well, the eyes.
Colors reminiscent of a shirley temple
or a blue lagoon.

How To:
Follow the same base and brow steps from the Moschino look
Light foundation, natural groomed brows, lip balm.

Start with an eye base (primer) to make certain all pigments
show true color when placed on the lid
To make this look translate to the street, apply the crease color no higher than the crease.
Delicately dust the lightest shade all around the eye

Give it a try now and you'll be spring ready for whenever it decides to stick around!

Fashion Friday-SS13 Makeup and Hair Trends

| Friday, February 22, 2013

The word fashion encompasses more than just wardrobe
Hair, makeup and accessories are all things to consider
when pulling together, and completing, your look

With only a couple months left of shoveling snow
and scraping frost, the thought of
Spring and Summer is becoming an attainable reality
Take a glance into the future and lay your eyes on
the makeup and hair trends of 2013

Gravity took its toll on last years top knot pulling it down
to below occipital

Expertise is not required to create this look.
Its a DIY makeup dream; imperfections are required

Low ponytails contained in a braid
achieve practical beauty
with minimal effort

You can't keep the orange lip down
Season after season we see tints and shades of
l'orange and this season is no
exception

Do-ragging in style!
Cover up salon neglected locks
with the help of a printed
scarf, band or wrap...
Or simply wear it 'cause it's cute

Toxic turquoise liner made a
bold debut this season
paired with a barely-there-base and a
nude, natural pout

Watch for the how-to tutorials for
all the makeup looks on
Tuesday's post!

And for gosh sakes, register for our spring classes

Teach Me Tuesday-How To: Jewel Tone Makeup

| Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Following Fashion Friday's post on jewel tones
today's post,
how-to on jewel tone makeup and inspiration for all

The cool side of makeup tones;
Emerald, Amethyst, Sapphire

Working with complimentary hues to stay true to our color wheel,
let's start with
Amethyst lids for green peppers

Sapphire on brown, a complimentary combination

Color wheel neighbors, Green (Emerald) on baby blues,
create an alluring finish

Now the How-To:

Always start with a primer to keep your product in place
Add a wash of color, lightly or heavy depending on the desired look,
to the lids.
Phase the color up to the crease, making sure to blend well!
If you are looking for more intensity, further pigment can be added to the outer
crease of your eyes.

PRO TIP:
Depending on eye shape, a super sweet glitter
can by applied to the center of the lid
This will highlight the eye, drawing it forward.
This is a great trick for someone with deep set eyes
If your a glitter gal, hold a cotton pad under your eye to catch the fallout.
Although fallout was intentional here,
imagine cleaning this up right before
heading out the door for your Christmas Party;
best to use a cotton pad.

If it's drama you're after, line your water line with black pencil,
saving the top lid for cake liner

Add a little flare to your lashes with a soft curl,
finish with a generous amount of mascara

Pair any of these looks with a knockout lip of
Ruby tints and hues
Remember to use a liner to avoid any bleeding

So stray away from your safe zone this Holiday season,
Dabble in on-trend jewel tones

Fashion Friday- Jewel Tones, head-to-toe

| Friday, December 7, 2012

Command attention in a room full of onyx with regal jewel tones

Shower yourself in
Garnet, Amethyst, Malachite, Gold
Gem tones accentuate textures and add drama to any look
Hair, makeup and fabric

Some looks we are loving in the now

Violet sapphire hair is not for the conventional fashionista,
but if you are willing to take a risk try this one out

A dramatic smokey eye in tones true to a grape garnet compliment
green eyes for a striking finish

A velvet cowl neck dress in deep emerald is
pleasing to the eye and the touch

Sapphire makeup on crystal blue eyes makes this
monochromatic look, ravishing!

A Sapphire sequin jumpsuit will grab the attention of
everyone

Opt for Ruby-Onyx tresses this season to break free of
solid-hue-blues

If you are still timid, try a gunmetal grey druzy textured top
and carbonado leather skirt

Happy Friday Fashion Folks
