The Secret to Beautiful Flawless Skin

There is a secret to it. Trust us, even models don't wake up looking this good!

It's the little tricks of the trade we are about to let you in on....

Don't underestimate the simplicity of moisturizing, this is start to it all.
Slather it on day and night!

Primer is key, once you try it you will never ever go without! A pea sized amount over the top of your moisturizer will:

lock in moisture
prevent makeup absorbing throughout the day
keep the skin fresh and dewy all day long

Want to turn up the glow...

Here's my favourite combo:

Add half BB Cream to half liquid Illuminator

Apply over the face focusing on the areas that need coverage. For additional highlight add a touch of illuminator in 'Champagne' to cheek bones, brow bone and temples.

Next step is to conceal any under eye darkness or redness

And finish off with a dusting of translucent powder. Apply to t-zone only to keep that dewy sheen going strong.

FYI - I'm in love with this powder, it is so fine and soft, like nothing I've ever felt before! Sets without looking heavy or powdery, perfect for this fresh dewy look.

AW03 Maquillage Translucent Powder

And then tell everyone you just woke up looking like this!

6 simple steps is all it takes...

Pretty Pastels

| Thursday, April 17, 2014

Pretty Pastels in Sorbet Shades

This is one of of our favourite makeup trends at Artists Within this season and something that everyone can pull off! It's the perfect way to look fresh & youthful yet is easy breezy to create.

The trick with this look is to keep it simple. Start with a wash of colour over the lid:

Use a brush with long bristles and blend all over the lid from lash line to brow bone and then under the lower lashes. One colour is all it takes.

Contrast your eye colour to make it pop. Brown eyes look great in blues and greens, green eyes in purples and blue eyes are fantastic with a wash of orange

When completing the face be sure to stick to the same intensity of tints so that one colour does not fight with another. Everything should be in harmony together.

Play around with colour combinations, what you think may clash, in pretty pastel shades can look soft and playful. Soft shades of pink are a great go to lip colour for this trend, play within the realm of nude pinks to soft candy pinks.

Think pretty, think girlie, think of sorbet and just have fun!

Tis the season for pretty pastels

S /S 14 is about options and versatility

| Friday, March 28, 2014

Spring here in YYC looks a little something like, well, Winter. *Le Sigh*
We are grasping at any thing to distract us from our depleting levels of vitamin D and our deep onset of seasonal depression.
S/S14 Fashion Trends is just the distraction we were looking for

From L-R: Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler, Jenny Packham, Victoria by Victoria Beckham and Delpozo

From L-R: Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Rebecca Taylor
From L-R: Valentino, Fendi, Paul Smith
From L-R: Lanvin, Gucci, Fendi
All signs point to Spring / Summer 2014 being chic & wearable.
Pretty & Pastel
Gorgeous AnD Graphic
Luxurious & Lustrous
Like Rock'n'Roll, black & white will never die. Go ahead and pair the obvious two together, creating an ultra sleek finish.
Pastel hue's are back with vengeance. Seen in makeup, wardrobe and hair this trend is a must have
Abstract prints make a bold statement. Remember the KISS principle when choosing this seasonal trend.
Igneous attire help to heat up those chilly YYC Summer nights

S / S 2014 is about versatility, appealing to all fashion folks of varying fashion strokes.

Fashion Friday- Our Oscar's picks

| Friday, March 1, 2013

Whoa, late blog post!
The academy is buzzing, so we're a little late on the posting draw.

Get ready, we are going to throw some looks from
last week's award show at you...

Every year we are guaranteed to see some
fashion flops and triumphs
This year was no exception...

Starting with everyone's fave new girl on the scene,
Jennifer Lawrence
With a pretty-in-pink Dior couture dress,
girl looked good!
...she was even graceful
as she tripped up the stairs; that's elegance

Next up, trouble starter Anne Hathaway
Causing a stir between designers after
stepping out in a Prada frock post Valentino
boasting about Mrs. Hathaway wearing one of their
own designs.
Also, it appears a cool Canadian breeze followed
Anne around where ever she went...

Kerry Washington was a show stopper in her
pink Miu Miu shift
Although we coveted her look,
Kerry gained some haters by wearing this number
Aw well, haters gonna hate
What does she care?! She's rich!

What would the Academy Awards be without
pint-size, smoke show, Selma Hayek?
Although we loved the Alexander McQueen dress,
we weren't sold on her overall look.
But what do we know?!

Check back on Tuesday to learn
how to re-create makeup
looks from the Oscars!

Happy Friday Fashion Freaks!

Teach Me Tuesday: Fashion Friday how-to's

| Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Friday is translating into Tuesday
You know, minus the pleasant prospect of Saturday.
Today, we're dissecting the looks from Friday's
post and showing you how the
pro's do it

Starting with Moschino's look
Electric eyeliner made its presence known on
the bottom lash line...

A fresh base with subtle warm contour, natural
groomed brows, and a pristine pout
allowing the eyes to steal the runway.
As seen on Moschino models.

How to:
Apply foundation only where needed to ensure your natural glow isn't masked.
Add an understated illuminator to your foundation for a little sparkle

Groom brows with a disposable, clean, mascara wand to achieve the natural shape.
Keep 'em in place with a little brow gel/wax or a light hold hairspray

Slap on your fave lip balm to add some moisture

Line the bottom lash line and water line with
an electric blue, volatile violet or intense tangerine
Remember to set your liner with a matching eyeshadow color
or a translucent powder
to ensure in-to-the-night wear

Missoni's runway look had the gab doing all the talking!
A juicy punch of color makes us think of
tropical flavored candies and rainbows!

A heavily highlighted, dewy, base,
exaggerated brows, no-shadow lid and
a light coat of mascara
lets the mouth do all the talking for this
look seen on Missoni's SS2013 runway

How to:
For heavy highlight, use a liberal amount of liquid or cream highlighter, apply
to all areas you want to accentuate
ie: Cheek bones, above brows, chin, jaw line.
For a more faint highlight, mix it in with your foundation only
Add a pale pink contour to emphasize the cheek bones even further

Groom brows, making sure to exaggerate the shape with your pencil and powder to maintain the look

Offer restraint when apply mascara. The look calls for natural lashes (try brown to keep it  über organic looking)

Line your lips to avoid any bleeding of lip color. For longer wear, color them in using the lip pencil. Put your desired lip color on top.
The face chart above shows that the artist, Lucia Pieroni, uses a highlight
around the mouth for an instant pout plumper, sans needles

Finding face charts for Peter Som's runway makeup was
damn impossible!
We'll have to settle on a backstage shot...

Artist, Tom Pecheux, makes sure to keep the
focal point on the baby blues by muting
the rest of the look.
With next-to-no-makeup visible, all
eyes are on, well, the eyes.
Colors reminiscent of a shirley temple
or a blue lagoon.

How To:
Follow the same base and brow steps from the Moschino look
Light foundation, natural groomed brows, lip balm.

Start with an eye base (primer) to make certain all pigments
show true color when placed on the lid
To make this look translate to the street, apply the crease color no higher than the crease.
Delicately dust the lightest shade all around the eye

Give it a try now and you'll be spring ready for whenever it decides to stick around!

Fashion Friday-SS13 Makeup and Hair Trends

| Friday, February 22, 2013

The word fashion encompasses more than just wardrobe
Hair, makeup and accessories are all things to consider
when pulling together, and completing, your look

With only a couple months left of shoveling snow
and scraping frost, the thought of
Spring and Summer is becoming an attainable reality
Take a glance into the future and lay your eyes on
the makeup and hair trends of 2013

Gravity took its toll on last years top knot pulling it down
to below occipital

Expertise is not required to create this look.
Its a DIY makeup dream; imperfections are required

Low ponytails contained in a braid
achieve practical beauty
with minimal effort

You can't keep the orange lip down
Season after season we see tints and shades of
l'orange and this season is no
exception

Do-ragging in style!
Cover up salon neglected locks
with the help of a printed
scarf, band or wrap...
Or simply wear it 'cause it's cute

Toxic turquoise liner made a
bold debut this season
paired with a barely-there-base and a
nude, natural pout

Watch for the how-to tutorials for
all the makeup looks on
Tuesday's post!

And for gosh sakes, register for our spring classes
