Femme Fatal, Bombshell or Fantasy

What stirs your inner desires?

Art Deco details, cocktail dresses, Vionnet designs, intimate dinners, Milan...

Life is about dreaming big...is it dreaming or does it become reality? The world of fashion takes us to places that we can only imagine, or does it take us to places that we only thought we could imagine?

Milano, Pizza Con Cucina and Louis Vuitton perhaps...

Femme Fatal, a miracle of nature, a vamp, a master of sartorial enhancement or just a fantasy figure asks Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt...

The world of fashion creates these fantasy figures, each so different from the last but bonded together in an alternate world

Madam Figaro does it well, Eva Green featured as the ultimate bond girl but now as a blond bombshell, Eva meets Marilyn taking us into that world again.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but where does it take you?

It changes, hourly, daily seasonally and the best part about the world of fashion is maybe we don't need to know whether it is fantasy or reality, maybe it is neither.

Food for thought,

The Secret to Beautiful Flawless Skin

There is a secret to it. Trust us, even models don't wake up looking this good!

It's the little tricks of the trade we are about to let you in on....

Don't underestimate the simplicity of moisturizing, this is start to it all.
Slather it on day and night!

Primer is key, once you try it you will never ever go without! A pea sized amount over the top of your moisturizer will:

lock in moisture
prevent makeup absorbing throughout the day
keep the skin fresh and dewy all day long

Want to turn up the glow...

Here's my favourite combo:

Add half BB Cream to half liquid Illuminator

Apply over the face focusing on the areas that need coverage. For additional highlight add a touch of illuminator in 'Champagne' to cheek bones, brow bone and temples.

Next step is to conceal any under eye darkness or redness

And finish off with a dusting of translucent powder. Apply to t-zone only to keep that dewy sheen going strong.

FYI - I'm in love with this powder, it is so fine and soft, like nothing I've ever felt before! Sets without looking heavy or powdery, perfect for this fresh dewy look.

AW03 Maquillage Translucent Powder

And then tell everyone you just woke up looking like this!

6 simple steps is all it takes...

Stay tuned to our blog - weekly posts are coming your way

Teach Me Tuesday: Fashion Friday how-to's

| Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Friday is translating into Tuesday
You know, minus the pleasant prospect of Saturday.
Today, we're dissecting the looks from Friday's
post and showing you how the
pro's do it

Starting with Moschino's look
Electric eyeliner made its presence known on
the bottom lash line...

A fresh base with subtle warm contour, natural
groomed brows, and a pristine pout
allowing the eyes to steal the runway.
As seen on Moschino models.

How to:
Apply foundation only where needed to ensure your natural glow isn't masked.
Add an understated illuminator to your foundation for a little sparkle

Groom brows with a disposable, clean, mascara wand to achieve the natural shape.
Keep 'em in place with a little brow gel/wax or a light hold hairspray

Slap on your fave lip balm to add some moisture

Line the bottom lash line and water line with
an electric blue, volatile violet or intense tangerine
Remember to set your liner with a matching eyeshadow color
or a translucent powder
to ensure in-to-the-night wear

Missoni's runway look had the gab doing all the talking!
A juicy punch of color makes us think of
tropical flavored candies and rainbows!

A heavily highlighted, dewy, base,
exaggerated brows, no-shadow lid and
a light coat of mascara
lets the mouth do all the talking for this
look seen on Missoni's SS2013 runway

How to:
For heavy highlight, use a liberal amount of liquid or cream highlighter, apply
to all areas you want to accentuate
ie: Cheek bones, above brows, chin, jaw line.
For a more faint highlight, mix it in with your foundation only
Add a pale pink contour to emphasize the cheek bones even further

Groom brows, making sure to exaggerate the shape with your pencil and powder to maintain the look

Offer restraint when apply mascara. The look calls for natural lashes (try brown to keep it  über organic looking)

Line your lips to avoid any bleeding of lip color. For longer wear, color them in using the lip pencil. Put your desired lip color on top.
The face chart above shows that the artist, Lucia Pieroni, uses a highlight
around the mouth for an instant pout plumper, sans needles

Finding face charts for Peter Som's runway makeup was
damn impossible!
We'll have to settle on a backstage shot...

Artist, Tom Pecheux, makes sure to keep the
focal point on the baby blues by muting
the rest of the look.
With next-to-no-makeup visible, all
eyes are on, well, the eyes.
Colors reminiscent of a shirley temple
or a blue lagoon.

How To:
Follow the same base and brow steps from the Moschino look
Light foundation, natural groomed brows, lip balm.

Start with an eye base (primer) to make certain all pigments
show true color when placed on the lid
To make this look translate to the street, apply the crease color no higher than the crease.
Delicately dust the lightest shade all around the eye

Give it a try now and you'll be spring ready for whenever it decides to stick around!

Fashion Friday- ArtWear 2012; a success!

| Friday, November 9, 2012

Last night, an annual event went off without a hitch
in spite of the heavy snowfall warnings all over YYC

ArtWear 2012 has been on the calendar for many
fashionistas,
high bidders,
bloggers,
photographers and
the prying eyes of trendsetters,
for quite some time now.

Artists Within has had the pleasure of contributing to this event for quite some time now.
AW Models International stomped down the runway with enough
attitude to humble any teenage girl

And Artists Within makeup artists, busily worked backstage
applying silver smokey eyes, strong brows,
and a wine stained pout

A peek backstage at models and artists

The finished product was vintage, hollywood, gorgeous!

ArtWear 2012 will go down in YYC fashion history with top designers
Until next year, we'll file ArtWear 2012 in the success vault!

Teach Me Tuesday- Lip Scrubs

| Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Fall is upon us and
so is the dry weather

That could mean bad news for your smile
Unless...
You follow our tips and tricks to avoid flaky lips

Fall/Winter 2012 lips call for bold burgundy, rustic red
and provocative purple
With dry lips, these hues end up being a GIANT arrow
pointing directly to a problematic area

The simplest way to avoid cracked flaky lips is to exfoliate
Exfoliating your lips, like your skin, removes dead skin loitering on the surface of your kisser
Once gone, you'll uncover a more soft, supple, kissable pout

Grab a toothbrush (go on, your boyfriend won't mind if you use his)
and start gently scrubbing. Soft bristles are best and be gentle
Apply your favorite lip balm (with SPF!) to infuse your lips with much needed moisture

Another alternative, which won't sacrifice your boyfriends toothbrush, is sugar!
Sugar is a great natural exfoliator that,
not only will benefit your lips,
but will also curb your sugar cravings- it's edible!
Our fave- Sweet Lips: For sweet and chocolatey lips!

For artists working on set
Ever worked on a model with dry chapped lips?
Once you're done scolding them on proper lip and skin care,
grab a cotton pad and your fave moisturizer
In circular motions, gently scrub the dry surface before prepping the base.
Add a lip balm to lock in moisture

Incorporate exfoliating your lips into your nightly cleansing routine
Your lips will be thankful and so will you!

Fashion Friday-Day 1, NYFW

| Friday, September 7, 2012

Fashion addicts are Optimists
as
Fall hasn't even happened
Yet, designers, bloggers, models and fashionista's alike
are obsessing about Spring 2013

Spring/Summer 2013 Carl Kapp

New York fashion week opened September 5th with the usual-
Speeches, thank you's, you know, the obligatory stuff.

Then yesterday happened
Thursday kicked off at 9AM, with Nicholas K's collection

Models started down the stark white runway sporting flowy threads
reminiscent of seasons past.
Pantone tangerine successfully holding onto future cred,
geometric patterns that can be worn by the most modest fashion lover,
and sweater wraps that drape with utmost perfection

Makeup was kept simple, pretty
Bronzed cheeks, monochromatic lids and natural, nude lips

Next up was BCBG where all fashion goers alike swarmed (we assume, as we weren't there)
to get a glimpse at what they'll be sporting in Spring

Subdued patterns in mute colors reared their beautiful heads
and, once again,  hues of tangerine make an appearance so not to be forgotten

Makeup of choice
Defined brow, smokey liner, contoured cheeks and a stained pout
Oh! And unkempt hair, purrr

11am rolled in and so did Richard Chai's runway show

Pastel water colors accompanied by varying patterns
with designs that appeared to be influenced by sporty garb

In the past, geometric liner was thought to be big and bold,
It appears as though Spring 2013 has a more diluted take on the look
Escorted with flawless skin and au natural lips and brows,
the look is easily achieved with max impact

That's a wrap of Day 1 at Spring/Summer 2013
New York Fashion Week

Have a great weekend fashion addicts!
