Introducing the launch of AW03 Maquillage

The buzz is flying around the offices of Artists Within Makeup Academy! After months of planning, working, tweaking, styling, colouring and design, our own makeup line has finally arrived. May we present AW03 Maquillage!


Heres a little fun fact about the name AW03:

AW = Artists Within       03 = the year that the academy started

We ran over to the BT studios the other morning and joined Jill Belland to have a little makeup play time. Is it as easy as it looks to apply makeup like a pro? Watch the clip to find out:

We think Jill rocked it!!

Here's what we used:
                                                     Eye Primer                Eye Primer Brush
A makeup artist always primes their canvas, in this case, the eyelids. Using the 'Cream' brush a small amount of 'Eye Primer' is washed over each lid. This takes away all of the redness and unevenness on the lid giving a smooth even base which also prevents your shadow creasing or disappearing throughout the day. Multifunctional!

 Jill Blends the brows upward and outward before filling in with the Brow Pencil using light feathery strokes. Be sure to brush thorough afterwards also to blend everything together.


                                       Liquid Illuminator   Cream Brush   Highlighting Pencil 
 Next step is to highlight the eyes. First we applied a touch of liquid illuminator to the inner eye area using our 'Cream' brush again {looks great on cheek bones too!} Next step was to run the highlighting pencil around the inner eye. This is one of my favourite tricks! Brightens and whitens the eyes instantly, who doesn't need/love that!! Also use a smidge under the brow smudging with your finger which creates the perfect subtle highlight.

 Now Jill uses a combo of these brushes and the 'Spring Fling' palette immediately below to the left. Using the 'Crease' {brush #1} apply a wash of the lilac shade over the upper lid, blending all over. Next step is to use the 'Mini Smudger' {brush #2} and apply the same shade all under the lower lashes. The final step is to use the 'All Over Eye Blender' {brush #3} to phase everything together {don't apply colour to this brush just use it to work it all together and get rid of the edges}

Now you didn't see this in the video as we ran out of time but using #5 from our most popular 'Blush Palette' in Neutral and the bronzing brush below apply a touch of colour to the apple of the cheeks. I love the Bronzing brush for this as it gives a really pretty defused wash of colour to the skin. The tone of the blush needs to stay fairly neutral with this look or it takes on a candy floss feel, instead give off a Chic Cool Vibe using the coolness of the eye paired with a warm or neutral cheek and lip colour.

The final touch is a slick of Lip Gloss in Nought as seen above. And there you have it, a Chic & Cool Vibe for the spring we're sure to have in YYC one day!

Fab Beauty Finds for the New Year!

Beauty fab finds for 2014

It’s a new year, time to revamp our beauty drawers!
Here’s a look at our must haves for the coming year:



NARS FINAL CUT COLLECTION


The second we saw this collection we had to have it, what a pretty fresh update for the New Year! Always a fan of the illuminators this one didn’t disappoint. Wearing to highlight either under the foundation or pressed over your base, create a beautiful  shimmering pinky glow. The satin lip pencils are also a favorite, seen here in four limited shades. These lip colors glide on easily leaving a creamy intense finish. Finally the blush; which true to NARS is very well pigmented, (a little goes a long way) creates a perfect fresh flushed finish.


AURA BY SWAROVSKI



These pendants are adorable! A lip-gloss compact in a necklace, how fun is that! These remind us of the old-school lockets . The packaging is the sweetest, wrapped up like a candy. I love the long chain /rope they hang on making it perfect to dress these down with a pair of jeans and a blazer or they are the perfect touch to a little black dress. What more does a girl need, jewels and lip-gloss!


BURBERRY FRESH GLOW POWDER in NUDE RADIANCE NO.1


The packaging would almost be better than the product if the product wasn’t so fabulous! The attention to detail is incredible throughout the whole collection. I especially enjoy the weight of the compact and Burberry’s signature pattern that carries through from the packaging to being etched into the product. This highlighter is incredibly fine so glides onto the face flawlessly while creating super yet subtle sheen wherever it is applied.


THIERRY MUGLER – ANGEL


A signature fragrance is what every women needs. While perfume is such a personal thing this is definitely one to try. Angel is distinctive, a bold yet sensual womanly scent, that when worn always evokes a comment or two. With undertones or Bergamot, Vanilla, Patchouli and Chocolate it will be the one or it won’t!


PURMINERALS – Hello Bright Eyes Pencil


This is like the magic wand of makeup. A true must have, once you try you will never go back! There are many of these types of eye brightening pencils on the market but what I love about this one is the pink undertone which instantly brightens the eye, while ridding redness . Try lining the inner water line of the eye or try smudging a touch into the inner eye area or just under the brow bone. This isn’t called ‘hello bright eyes ‘ for nothing!


NUXE HUILE PRODIGIEUSE OR



I had never heard of a dry oil before, but this product is amazing, I am addicted to this little beauty! It comes in a regular or shimmer formula and can be used on the face, body or hair. The shimmer is perfect for that winter getaway or an evening out, apply to the face, shoulders or decollate for a beautiful shimmery glow or or a subtle sheen try adding a touch into your moisturizer. The perfect product for Calgary winters, the moisturizing properties of an oil without the greasy oily feel. A must try!

Whoa, late blog post!
The academy is buzzing, so we're a little late on the posting draw.

Get ready, we are going to throw some looks from 
last week's award show at you...


Every year we are guaranteed to see some
fashion flops and triumphs
This year was no exception...

Starting with everyone's fave new girl on the scene,
Jennifer Lawrence
With a pretty-in-pink Dior couture dress, 
girl looked good!
...she was even graceful 
as she tripped up the stairs; that's elegance


Next up, trouble starter Anne Hathaway
Causing a stir between designers after
stepping out in a Prada frock post Valentino
boasting about Mrs. Hathaway wearing one of their
own designs.
Also, it appears a cool Canadian breeze followed
Anne around where ever she went...


Kerry Washington was a show stopper in her
pink Miu Miu shift
Although we coveted her look, 
Kerry gained some haters by wearing this number
Aw well, haters gonna hate
What does she care?! She's rich!


What would the Academy Awards be without 
pint-size, smoke show, Selma Hayek?
Although we loved the Alexander McQueen dress,
we weren't sold on her overall look.
But what do we know?!
