Lights, Camera, Action!

As Artists, we need to know the difference between

a variety of photo shoots and the desired result...

Editorial, Catalogue, Stock and Studio

Editorial Photo shoots are generally high fashion

Displaying creative hair, makeup and wardrobe

It can be shot in studio, on location or a variety of locations

Editorial shoots can be found near the end of a magazine and usually 

captures a story within the images

Catalogue shoots are there to sell a product
Clothing, jewellery, food/drink
Really, anything that can be bought could be photographed with a model
Depending on the feel of the shoot, 
a controlled environment like a studio can be used
or on location to offer continuity to the shoot

Stock Photography is used to fulfill the needs of creative assignments
instead of hiring a photographer
Available to purchase on online data bases
Often produced in studios using models posing as professionals,
stereotypes, expressing stereotypical emotions or with pets
Individuals or companies purchase the images to use for their own
promo/ad material

Studio Photography is, just that.
Shot in the controlled environment of a studio
where the lights are set just so,
the set is built or the back drop is up
Many different types of shots can be produced in this environment
Afterall, the photographer is in their zone
The possibilities are endless

Photography, along with everything that goes along with it, is an art form
Thinking outside the box usually generates the most interesting images

Have fun when creating, ensure diversity in your portfolio,
and step outside your comfort zone; challenge yourself!

Teach Me Tuesday- Lip Scrubs

Fall is upon us and

so is the dry weather

That could mean bad news for your smile

Unless...

You follow our tips and tricks to avoid flaky lips 

Fall/Winter 2012 lips call for bold burgundy, rustic red

and provocative purple

With dry lips, these hues end up being a GIANT arrow 

pointing directly to a problematic area

The simplest way to avoid cracked flaky lips is to exfoliate

Exfoliating your lips, like your skin, removes dead skin loitering on the surface of your kisser

Once gone, you'll uncover a more soft, supple, kissable pout 

Grab a toothbrush (go on, your boyfriend won't mind if you use his)

and start gently scrubbing. Soft bristles are best and be gentle

Apply your favorite lip balm (with SPF!) to infuse your lips with much needed moisture

Another alternative, which won't sacrifice your boyfriends toothbrush, is sugar!

Sugar is a great natural exfoliator that, 

not only will benefit your lips, 

but will also curb your sugar cravings- it's edible!

Try LUSH Lip Scrub

Our fave- Sweet Lips: For sweet and chocolatey lips!

For artists working on set 

Ever worked on a model with dry chapped lips?

Once you're done scolding them on proper lip and skin care,

grab a cotton pad and your fave moisturizer

In circular motions, gently scrub the dry surface before prepping the base.

Add a lip balm to lock in moisture

Incorporate exfoliating your lips into your nightly cleansing routine

Your lips will be thankful and so will you!

Fashion Friday- Go on, layer it up

If you live where we do, the weather is unpredictable

Especially during winter!

You have to be prepared for -30°c, blowing snow and a wind that bites at your bones

Then, you get that familiar ache in your brain to tell you a chinook is blowing in

WHAM! 

It's 10° out, the snow is melting, your frozen bones are thawing and you are stuck in the once practical down jacket, sweating buckets

Ahhh, YYC...

It's in our best interest to learn the technique of Layering

We're certain it was created for Canadians

Leandra Medine, or commonly referred to as Man Repeller, not because she is an ugly duckling, but instead because she believes, us ladies, dress for each other instead of the man/men and that the most fashionable of fashions actually repel the human male variety.

They don't get it. But they're sure cute to look at!
