Fashion Friday- Some of our favorites of 2012

| Friday, December 14, 2012

Another year passed
If the Mayan calendar is right, it's OK,
because it's been one hell of a year in fashion!
Today, a year in review of
Artists Within favorite
makeup, hair and fashion for 2012

This year fresh face's dominated
The skin was illuminating with utmost perfection
Highlighting and Contouring techniques were applied in plenty
Brows were groomed to be natural yet bold!
Colored mascara became trendy and classy,
paired with graphic liner of varying degree's of bold

All looks considered, we have give it to lips this year!
Spring /Summer we saw pantone orange and candy pink pouts
Fall/Winter brought us rich hues like Bordeaux and Oxblood;
There is no denying that the lips stole the show in makeup for 2012!

Hair this year saw texture, movement
and a groovy influence
Waves, curls, braids and twists
were incorporated into all lengths
The messy bun became acceptable means of styling your hair
for any event, no matter the formality
Sleek pony tails of varying heights, with sweet accessories
and details

This year all looks were novice stylist friendly
 Our favorite look, though,
was anything with a 60's vibe

Twenty Twelve brought us memorable fashions
that will carry trend for years to come
Layering techniques, colored/printed denim,
color blocking, Grandma knit sweaters,
and accessories to die for, to name a few

Whatever your personal style, there was something
this year to compliment you.
We've chosen the leather and lace trend
paired with the loudest accessory of the year,
The Statement Necklace,
as our beloved

With another year almost gone,
we are excited to see and wear what 2013 has to offer!

Happy Holiday's Fashion Freaks!

Teach Me Tuesday-How To: Jewel Tone Makeup

| Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Following Fashion Friday's post on jewel tones
today's post,
how-to on jewel tone makeup and inspiration for all

The cool side of makeup tones;
Emerald, Amethyst, Sapphire

Working with complimentary hues to stay true to our color wheel,
let's start with
Amethyst lids for green peppers

Sapphire on brown, a complimentary combination

Color wheel neighbors, Green (Emerald) on baby blues,
create an alluring finish

Now the How-To:

Always start with a primer to keep your product in place
Add a wash of color, lightly or heavy depending on the desired look,
to the lids.
Phase the color up to the crease, making sure to blend well!
If you are looking for more intensity, further pigment can be added to the outer
crease of your eyes.

Depending on eye shape, a super sweet glitter
can by applied to the center of the lid
This will highlight the eye, drawing it forward.
This is a great trick for someone with deep set eyes
If your a glitter gal, hold a cotton pad under your eye to catch the fallout.
Although fallout was intentional here,
imagine cleaning this up right before
heading out the door for your Christmas Party;
best to use a cotton pad.

If it's drama you're after, line your water line with black pencil,
saving the top lid for cake liner

Add a little flare to your lashes with a soft curl,
finish with a generous amount of mascara

Pair any of these looks with a knockout lip of
Ruby tints and hues
Remember to use a liner to avoid any bleeding

So stray away from your safe zone this Holiday season,
Dabble in on-trend jewel tones

Garnet, Amethyst, Malachite, Gold
Gem tones accentuate textures and add drama to any look

green eyes for a striking finish

A velvet cowl neck dress in deep emerald is
pleasing to the eye and the touch

Sapphire makeup on crystal blue eyes makes this
monochromatic look, ravishing!

A Sapphire sequin jumpsuit will grab the attention of

Opt for Ruby-Onyx tresses this season to break free of

If you are still timid, try a gunmetal grey druzy textured top
and carbonado leather skirt

Trending Thursday- Faux Fur no longer a Faux Pas

| Thursday, December 6, 2012

Faux fur has come a long way in fashion

It's no longer just the 90's ravers rocking this look
as it comes in more than just rainbow print

Faux fur is feminine, classic, timeless and fun!
All the while not sacrificing mammals for their warm coats
(seriously, how would you feel if someone stole your warm coat?)
not offending animal rights activists,
and without compromising your own beliefs

Here are 5 Faux fur must haves this season and for seasons to come

Anna Sui

This faux fur shearling boho vintage number is a runway fave this season
Sure to make a statement whatever it's worn with,
the perfect winter coverup

This golden faux fox coat is neutral enough to
compliment any outfit,
or alternatively, to make a fashion declaration

BB Dakota

If you are an entry level faux fur-er
unsure of what piece to start with,
this is the one!
Paired with anything from denim and a casual top,
to leather leggings (faux, of course) of any color,
and a chiffon blouse.
This long vest is a faux fur fantasy come true

Top Shop

This fur wannabe is multiple trends mashed into a
single bold must-have this season
Rock it with whatever you want, just be sure to rock it with attitude!

Vero Moda

Reminiscent of something Debbie Harry would have worn
in her Blondie days, this leopard friendly frock
will liven up any demure ensemble

Faux Fur is no longer a Faux Pas; you can thank the fashion gods for that!

We haven't bragged on a Wednesday for awhile...

| Wednesday, December 5, 2012

A while back, Wednesday turned into a day to stroke the
ego's of our students and alumni.

As people got busy with, you know life, Wednesday blogs entered a
short recession.
But we're back!

We are featuring a couple of our grads along with their
art, be it hair or makeup,
that they should nothing short of proud of!

Makeup is done by Stacy Pattison, the it girl this Wednesday

Stacy attended our part time makeup diploma program in 2011.
Since then, she has been busy building a strong portfolio,
making connections with local photographers and models.

Stacy also dabbles in photography, offering Beauty Sessions-
a make over and photo session for people like you!

Here is some of Stacy's latest work from a shoot that exudes
beauty, romance and a little goddess-y love
Hair by Maynell Maan, another Artists Within graduate!

Stacy will be joining us back at Artists Within in the New Year to
start her training in session hair styling
adding another notch in her belt!

If you missed yesterday's blog, check it out here
